Goal of Surgery for Colorectal Cancer
 |
| Surgery offers the best chance for a cure of colorectal cancer. |
The goal of surgery is to take out the tumor and the section of your colon or rectum where the tumor is located. It is the most common treatment for colorectal cancer and the only way to completely cure it. Most of the time, the doctor will also remove lymph nodes close to the tumor. A special doctor, called a pathologist, will then check these nodes to see if the cancer has spread.
